Teacher: an employee in the teachers’ unit (required to hold a certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education)

ESP: an employee in the Education Support Professional unit represented by HCEA (not required to hold a certificate from the Maryland State Department of Education)

How much of my dues go to NEA and MSEA – and how much to HCEA?

NEA dues for (full-time) teachers are $189.00 per year. Much of this money comes back to HCEA in the form of professional staff salaries and grants. It supports lobbying and program development at the national level. NEA ESP dues are $115.50 per year.

MSEA dues for (full-time) teachers and ESP are $322.00 per year. This money also pays for professional staff salaries and costs associated with maintaining a local Association and office. It pays for lobbying and programs at the state level. MSEA dues for Teachers and ESP at lower salary levels are $193.20 per year (salaries between $21,244 and $42,488 and above) and are $96.60 per year for ESP making less than $20,741.

HCEA dues for (full-time) teachers are $160.00 per year (salaries above $42,488), $120.80 per year (salaries between $30,000 and $42,488), $98.90 per year (salaries between $21,244 and $29,999), and $61.90 per year (salaries below $21,244). HCEA dues for ESP are $101.50 per year (salaries above $42,488), $95.30 per year (salaries between $30,000 and $42,488), $74.90 per year (salaries between $21,244 and 29,999), $61.90 per year (salaries between $12,000 and $21,244), and $40.90 per year (salaries below $12,000). This money pays for a release-time president and three office administrative staff. It covers the cost of maintaining the office and all HCEA programs.
